About West London Tamil School

West London Tamil School (WLTS) is a long-established community charity school dedicated to preserving and promoting Tamil language, culture, and Carnatic fine arts for future generations. Founded in 1978, the school has proudly served families for decades and is now approaching its 50th year of educational and cultural excellence.

Operating on Saturdays during the UK academic year (September–July), WLTS provides a welcoming and structured environment where children can learn to read, write, and speak Tamil while developing a deep appreciation of Tamil history, heritage, and values. Alongside language education, the school offers comprehensive training in Carnatic fine arts, including Mridangam, Veena, Vocal Music, Bharatanatyam, Violin, Flute, Carnatic Keyboard, and Western Keyboard.

As a registered charity, WLTS is run entirely on a not-for-profit basis, supported by a dedicated Board of Governors and a team of qualified teachers who generously volunteer their time and expertise. The school also conducts official worldwide examinations in Carnatic fine arts through its Oriental Fine Arts Academy London (OFAAL) programme, providing students with recognised progression and achievement opportunities.

Beyond the classroom, WLTS fosters confidence, teamwork, and community spirit through a rich programme of events. These include an annual Prize Giving Ceremony showcasing student performances and recognising outstanding achievement through the Best Performer Award, a vibrant and challenging Sports Day, festive community celebrations such as the Christmas Party, and educational competitions including Thirukkural and Elocution contests that strengthen public speaking skills and deepen Tamil language proficiency.

Student welfare is central to everything we do. All staff and volunteers undergo DBS checks, and the school maintains dedicated safeguarding leads, fire marshals, and first aid personnel to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.

Under the leadership of Head Teacher Dr P. Rasiah MBBS, West London Tamil School continues to nurture confident, culturally connected young people while bringing families together through shared learning and tradition. We warmly welcome parents and community members who wish to support our mission and help keep Tamil language and arts thriving for generations to come.

Charity Appeal

For nearly five decades, West London Tamil School (WLTS) has been sustained through the generosity, dedication, and voluntary service of our community. As a registered charity, the school operates on a not-for-profit basis, relying on trustees, volunteers, and donors who share our commitment to preserving Tamil language, culture, and the rich traditions of Carnatic fine arts.

We warmly welcome individuals who wish to contribute their time, skills, or resources to support the continued growth of the school. Becoming a trustee offers a meaningful opportunity to help guide the future of WLTS, support educational excellence, and strengthen cultural heritage for the next generation.

Donations directly support teaching resources, student events, facilities, examinations, and the safe delivery of our programmes. Every contribution helps ensure that children can continue to learn, perform, and thrive within a nurturing community environment.

By supporting WLTS, you are helping to keep language, culture, and the arts alive for future generations.
